The Community Coalition started in the fall of 2018 as a collaboration between USD 418 and the MCCF to address barriers related to students being ready to learn while at school. USD 418 focused on the hours within the school day and was part of the Kansas Dept of Education redesign efforts. The MCCF concentrated more on barriers that occur outside school hours.
Together the two entities invited stakeholders from all sectors of the community to help us identify the key difficulties our families are facing.
Several concerns rose to the surface; childcare, transportation, and communication to name a few. Mental Health became the main issue a couple of years ago. Since then, the coalition has been working to understand what the barriers to mental health resource access really are (both felt and real) and how to address those barriers. The coalition also has been working to help spread the word regarding resources we already have access to.
From this collaboration came the Mental Health resource poster (pictured). If you would be interested in a copy please contact our office.
Additionally, we have scheduled a Suicide Prevention and Resource Awareness Walk for September 25, 9 am-12noon at Wall Park. You can find more information here.
